In the house that combines modern work environment, there are under the same roof Estonian Open Air Museum\u2019s Rural Architecture Centre<\/a>, Estonian Woodhouse Association<\/a> and Cluster<\/a>, Tehasemaja O\u00dc. There is an outside study pavillion with open air space created especially for trainings and seminars. Showroom-exposition<\/a> ground is open for all museum visitors and partners, local people and foreign visitors.<\/p>\n

The Centre’s architectural concept is Nordic COMPACT<\/a>, an award winning project that won the title of \u201cPre-Fab House of the Year\u201d<\/a> in among more than 100 presented projects. Nordic COMPACT was created in cooperation with Nordic Houses O\u00dc<\/a> and Trilog Studio<\/a> architects.<\/p>\n<\/div>

SA Eesti Vaba\u00f5humuuseum`s (Estonian Open Air Museum)<\/a> ex-long term board member Merike Lang has said that bringing a modern prefab house to the museum is a first step towards a new conceptual direction to exhibit 21st century. \u201dA sample building is an architectural whole that embodies modern technologies and materials and follows the principles of environmentally sustainable building. Why not exhibit the architecture of the beginning of 21st century now and not wait 50-100 years. Also activities of the Competence Centre, that is located in the modern building, are closely connected with museum\u00b4s own activity goals,\u201d said Lang. \u201eIt is also remarkable that the new museal building comes to the collection of the museum as a present from Puiduklubi MT\u00dc. It is an act of the year for Estonian culture,\u201d added Lang gladly.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Competence Centre as a modern museal, complements the museum\u00b4s considerable collection of rural architecture, is located on ticket-free ground right next to visitor parking lot. In addition to counseling and training it is also possible to visit the timber sector exhibit area\/showroom that has been co-funded by Estonian Woodhouse Association and European Regional Development Fund via Enterprise Estonia measure \u201cProject competition of support services of enterprises export growth\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lauri Kivil, Managing Director of Estonian Woodhouse Association says that Estonia has been the biggest exporter of timber houses since 2010, while 90% of the sector\u00b4s production goes out to foreign markets. It is important to value the sector and introduce it to the wider audience also in our homeland. This is the goal that the Competence Centre, created to the grounds of Estonian Open Air Museum, is going to fulfill.\u201d\u00a0Estonian Woodhouse Association celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2019 and involves about 60 members.<\/p>\n

Estonian Ministry of Culture has acknowledged the founding of Timber Construction Competence Centre with an award of Kultuuris\u00f5ber 2018 (Culture Friend 2018).<\/p>\n

Overview<\/h1><\/div>

The architectural solution of the wooden construction competence center is the concept of standard houses \u201cNordic Compact\u201d, which is well suited for creating both a modern living and working environment.<\/p>\n

The Nordic COMPACT residential concept can be modeled, escalated and adapted. The residential complex consists of a spacious main module in different sizes (for example, XS, S, M, L, XL). Additional modules can be connected to the main house in different variations or installed separately (eg sauna house).<\/p>\n

Nordic COMPACT has become a home or summer house for approximately 100 families both in Estonia and abroad.<\/p>\n

Three different types of construction have been used as the main construction of the museum complex:<\/p>\n

wooden frame;
\ncross plywood CLT;
\ncross plywood MHM.<\/p>\n<\/div>
